In shortKetu in Taurus brings effortless past-life mastery of wealth, comfort and sensory pleasure, so resources and beauty come easily while possessing them feels strangely hollow, like wearing someone else's clothes. Growth lies opposite in Rahu's Scorpio, embracing crisis, emotional depth and the willingness to lose what is comfortable in order to find something that cannot be taken away.

Ketu in Taurus describes a person for whom money, comfort, food and beauty come fairly easily but rarely feel like the point. Astrologers read it as a soul that has already learned what Venus’s sign has to teach about having and keeping, so the old lessons feel finished. The growth direction is Rahu in Scorpio: depth, honesty, and the courage to let something comfortable change.

This page covers what the placement means in the sign of Venus, how each of the three nakshatras in Taurus colours it, how the condition of Venus decides much of the result, and what it tends to look like in work, love and the Ketu dasha.

Why Ketu Feels Out of Place in Venus’s Sign

Taurus (Vrishabha) is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. It is the natural second sign of the zodiac, so it carries the themes of the 2nd house: stored wealth, family, food, the face and the voice. The Moon is exalted here, with its deepest exaltation at 3 degrees. Taurus wants to build, keep and enjoy.

Ketu works the other way. It is the south node, the headless body, and astrologers associate it with separation, loss of interest, past-life skill and the urge to let go. Put the planet of release in the sign of keeping and you get a lasting tension. Some authorities treat Scorpio as Ketu’s sign of exaltation and Taurus as its sign of debilitation, and give Taurus to Rahu as its exaltation, while another school uses Gemini for Rahu and Sagittarius for Ketu. The Classical References section below sets out what the texts actually say. Either way, most astrologers agree that Ketu here does not settle easily.

Abundance That Does Not Satisfy

The most common description of this placement is ease without satisfaction. Resources tend to arrive: through family, a partner, a skill that pays, or simply good timing. Yet the person often feels little when they get what they worked for. A comfortable home can feel temporary. A good meal can leave them oddly flat.

This is not ingratitude, and it is worth saying so plainly, because people with this placement often feel guilty about it. Others may envy what they have, and they cannot explain why it feels borrowed. The traditional reading is that the soul already spent long stretches learning to accumulate, so accumulating again carries no fresh lesson.

Two patterns grow out of this. One is quiet self-sabotage: letting savings drain, neglecting a talent, or giving things away too quickly because keeping them feels undeserved. The other is swinging between indulgence and austerity, feast and fast, luxury and plainness, without finding a middle. The work is the same in both cases: accept what has been given without clinging to it and without throwing it away.

The Voice and the Senses Under Ketu

Taurus is linked with the voice and the face, and Venus with music and art. Many people with Ketu here have a natural gift for singing, speaking, cooking, craft or design that they barely notice because it came so easily. They sing well at a gathering and never train. They have a good eye and never use it professionally. What does not feel earned is easy to neglect.

The same sign governs the senses more broadly. A common description is someone who notices textures, tastes and sounds very sharply but does not hold on to the pleasure. Experience passes through rather than sticking. Used well, this can become a kind of contemplative attention: enjoying without grasping. Used poorly, it becomes numbness, and the person mistakes not feeling for being free.

A useful question for this placement is whether a gift is being let go because it no longer matters, or because looking after it feels like too much effort. Ketu’s detachment is real, but it can also cover simple neglect.

Krittika, Rohini or Mrigashira: Which Part of Taurus

Ketu’s degree in Taurus places it in one of three nakshatras, and each changes the flavour.

Ketu in Krittika (Taurus portion, padas 2 to 4)

Krittika runs from 26 degrees 40 minutes of Aries to 10 degrees of Taurus. Its lord is the Sun and its deity is Agni, fire. Ketu here is read as a pattern of burning through attachments in decisive moves rather than slowly. The person may build something carefully and then walk away from it in one clean act, without much apology. The solar influence adds authority to speech. The theme is purification: keeping only what is essential.

Ketu in Rohini (10 to 23 degrees 20 minutes Taurus)

Rohini is ruled by the Moon and its deity is Brahma, also called Prajapati, the creator. It is the most fertile and pleasure-oriented stretch of Taurus. Ketu here sharpens the core paradox: the person may be attractive, creative and well resourced, yet feel removed from all of it. The Moon’s rulership makes the detachment emotional rather than cold, more wistful than indifferent. Artists with this combination are often described as making work about impermanence. The tension to watch is between the Moon’s wish for emotional security and Ketu’s pull away from it.

Ketu in Mrigashira (Taurus portion, padas 1 and 2)

Mrigashira runs from 23 degrees 20 minutes of Taurus to 6 degrees 40 minutes of Gemini, so only its first two padas fall in Taurus. Its lord is Mars, its deity is Soma, and its symbol is the deer’s head. Ketu here gives a searching restlessness: not for more possessions, which Taurus already supplies, but for something the person struggles to name. Mars makes the search active. This combination suits research, investigation and any work that involves following clues.

How the Condition of Venus Changes Everything

Ketu has no sign of its own in the usual scheme and gives results largely through its dispositor, the lord of the sign it occupies. In Taurus that is Venus, the planet of desire, beauty and attachment. The manager and the managed want opposite things, so the state of Venus in the chart matters a great deal.

A strong Venus (in Taurus or Libra, exalted in Pisces, or well placed in a kendra or trikona without heavy affliction) tends to make the letting go graceful. The person has enough, knows it, and moves on without crisis.

A weak or afflicted Venus (debilitated in Virgo, combust, or under heavy malefic influence) tends to make the same detachment feel like deprivation. Loss can feel like punishment rather than growth, and pleasure can seem out of reach because Venus cannot deliver it, not because Ketu has outgrown it.

The house Venus occupies shows where the theme plays out most visibly: in relationships with Venus in the 7th, in career with Venus in the 10th, in spiritual life and withdrawal with Venus in the 12th.

On the other side of the axis, Rahu sits in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. So the chart carries a Venus and Mars tension: Venus managing what is being released, Mars managing what is being hungered for. The movement is from comfort toward transformation.

Work, Money and Love With the South Node in Taurus

Work. People with this placement often do best where they can use a good sense of value and quality without being driven by it. Fields commonly suggested include the arts and music, voice work and sound, food and farming, valuation, antiques and craft, conservation, and financial roles where emotional distance from money helps judgement. The nakshatra adds detail: Krittika leans toward leadership and cooking, Rohini toward the arts, beauty and land, Mrigashira toward research and travel.

Money. The relationship with money is often the clearest mirror of the placement. Grasping tends to feel bad; holding things lightly tends to feel right. That is a description of an inner pattern, not a promise that letting go brings money back.

Love. Partners often describe feeling well provided for but not fully met. The person may cook, furnish and care with real skill while seeming slightly elsewhere. They rarely cling and will not fight hard to keep a relationship that has ended, which a partner can mistake for not caring. With Rahu in Scorpio, growth comes through the deeper and more exposed kind of intimacy, where honesty matters more than comfort. A well placed Venus helps here; an afflicted Venus can make bonds comfortable but shallow.

Traditional and modern astrology writing links Taurus with the face, mouth, neck and throat, and links Venus with the reproductive and hormonal system and the skin. Writers on Ketu in Taurus therefore tend to point to these areas, and to the person’s relationship with eating, as related themes. This is symbolic association only. A chart cannot cause, predict or rule out any health condition, and anything to do with your health is a question for a doctor.

A note on this section

This describes a tendency the classical texts associate with this placement. It is not a diagnosis, and a chart cannot tell whether any of it is true of you now. If you are struggling, talk to a person before a chart. In India, Tele-MANAS is free and open around the clock on 14416, and 14446 is the national de-addiction helpline. Elsewhere, a doctor or your local emergency number.

As ordinary good habit, not treatment: regular meals at regular times suit a placement that tends toward irregularity.

The Seven Years of Ketu Dasha and the Ketu Return

Ketu’s mahadasha lasts seven years in the Vimshottari system. For Ketu in Taurus it is usually read as a review of what the person thought they needed: possessions, routines, financial structures and comforts. Some things are lost and some are let go. By the end, the person usually has a clearer sense of what is essential.

Money may shift rather than vanish, often moving toward learning, travel or spiritual interests. Relationships held together mainly by comfort may loosen, while those with deeper roots tend to be tested. The Venus antardasha inside Ketu’s mahadasha is often singled out as the point where the pull between keeping and releasing is felt most.

Transiting Ketu spends about eighteen months in each sign and returns to its natal position roughly every eighteen and a half years. Each Ketu return asks the same question: are you holding your possessions lightly, or are you still trying to make them carry your sense of safety?

Remedies for Ketu in Taurus

Where to start. The behavioural remedies come first because they cost nothing and act on the pattern itself. Mantra and giving come next. Temple visits and rituals are traditional and optional. A gemstone comes last, and only after a full reading of your chart: never as a first response to a single placement, because the wrong stone can strengthen the very thing it was meant to calm.

Behavioural Remedies

  1. Notice and acknowledge what you have, daily and plainly. Detachment and appreciation can sit together.
  2. Give full attention to one sensory practice, such as cooking, gardening, pottery or music, as a form of steady attention rather than escape.
  3. Share food regularly. Taurus is the sign of nourishment, and giving it away is the traditional way to work with Ketu here.
  4. Spend unstructured time outdoors, on the ground, with no goal attached.
  5. Lean into the Rahu side. With Rahu in Scorpio, honest conversation, emotional depth and facing fear are the growth direction.

Mantra

Ketu Beej Mantra: Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah, traditionally chanted 108 times. Adding Friday, the day of Venus, honours the sign lord.

Ketu Gayatri: Om Chitravarnaya Vidmahe, Sarparoopaya Dhimahi, Tanno Ketu Prachodayat, often chanted during the Ketu mahadasha.

Venus Mantra: Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah, chanted on Fridays to support the dispositor.

Giving

Item Day Note
Brown or grey blankets Friday or Saturday Given to the poor or to shelters
Sesame seeds (til) Saturday Traditionally associated with Ketu
Seven grains (sapta dhanya) Saturday A traditional offering for the nodes
Feeding dogs Any day Dogs are traditionally linked with Ketu
Rice, milk or sugar Friday Honours Venus, the sign lord

Temple

Keezhaperumpallam Naganathaswamy Temple in Tamil Nadu is the Navagraha temple for Ketu. Kanjanur in Tamil Nadu is the Navagraha temple for Venus. Ganesha worship is the traditional general remedy for Ketu; Om Gan Ganapataye Namah is commonly chanted 108 times.

Gemstone

A last resort, not a first step. Consider a stone only after the whole chart has been read, including this planet’s dignity and the dasha you are running.

Cat’s Eye (Lehsunia or Vaidurya) is Ketu’s gemstone, traditionally worn on the middle finger and set in silver. CAUTION: Cat’s Eye is said to amplify Ketu, which in Taurus means amplifying detachment from material security. For anyone already facing financial instability it may make matters worse. Consult a qualified Jyotishi before wearing it.

Diamond (Heera) or White Sapphire is the stone of Venus, considered when Venus is well placed and needs support.

Classical References

A note on reading these verses: they are terse and blunt, as texts of their time are, and they were written with a man’s chart in mind. Each speaks of one factor taken alone. No astrologer reads a chart from a single verse, and nothing here is a prediction about you or your family.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS): BPHS ch. 34 (Santhanam’s edition, verse 16) says Rahu and Ketu give their effects mainly according to the house lord they are joined with and the house they occupy. BPHS ch. 47 (verses 34 to 39) gives Taurus as the sign of exaltation of Rahu, not of Ketu. It has no passage on Ketu in Taurus. Practitioners today read Venus as dispositor giving Ketu access to artistic and material resources while creating tension between accumulation and renunciation, and read shadow planets in fixed signs as stable but sometimes stagnant spiritual patterns.

Phaladeepika: Phaladeepika (ch. 4, verse 5) lists Taurus among the signs in which Ketu is strong, together with Pisces, Virgo and the later half of Sagittarius, under conditions the verse attaches about the Sun, the Moon and a night birth. It has no passage on Ketu in earth signs. Practitioners today read the placement as natives who appear grounded and stable but carry an internal restlessness that defies their external composure. In Taurus specifically, they read wealth that comes easily but does not remain, and a voice or speech pattern that is distinctive but unconventional.

Saravali: Saravali’s chapters on the planets in the signs (ch. 22 to 29) cover the seven planets from the Sun to Saturn, and the book has no passage on Ketu in Venus’s sign. Practitioners today read the placement as a soul torn between the pleasures of the world and the call of the spirit: the native may be handsome or beautiful, skilled in arts and music, yet perpetually dissatisfied with their own beauty and their own creations.

Uttara Kalamrita: Uttara Kalamrita (ch. VI, on the results of the major periods) gives Taurus (Vrishabha) as Rahu’s exaltation and Scorpio as Ketu’s, and does not call Ketu debilitated in Taurus. Some practitioners today do consider Ketu debilitated in Taurus, as the shadow planet of renunciation struggles in the sign of accumulation, and they add that this struggle can produce extraordinary spiritual fruit: the tension between having and releasing becomes the engine of transformation.

Being in the Garden Without Needing It

Ketu in Taurus is not a call to reject the material world. Rejecting it would be the easy way out. The task is to live well in the garden without needing the garden: to earn without mistaking money for safety, to enjoy beauty without grasping it, and to love without asking love to rescue you. Rahu in Scorpio points toward the deeper ground where comfort is no longer the measure, and the steadiest people with this placement are those who have stopped holding on so tightly.
