Most people arrive at the word remedy after a hard stretch: a difficult dasha, a transit that is being talked about, a chart that someone has described in worrying words. The tradition does have a long list of remedies, called upaya or parihara. This guide sets them out in the order that most teachers themselves give, so that the cheap and useful things come first and the costly things come last.
Nothing here promises a result. A remedy in this tradition is a way of turning attention towards a planet’s theme and acting well in that area of life. Many readers find the habits steady and the devotion comforting, and that is reason enough to keep them. They are not a way to override circumstances, and anything to do with health, money or law belongs with a qualified professional first.
The order the tradition suggests
1. Conduct and service. Every planet has a part of life it governs, and the first remedy is to behave well in that part. The Sun asks for honesty with authority, the Moon for care of the mind and of one’s mother, Mars for disciplined effort, Mercury for truthful speech, Jupiter for respect to teachers, Venus for fidelity and good taste, Saturn for fair work and kindness to those who serve you, and the nodes for honest ambition and for letting go of what is finished. Teachers across schools rank this above everything else.
2. Mantra and devotion. Reciting a hymn, a name or a short mantra to the deity linked with the planet, at a regular hour, in a way you can keep up. Our mantra library holds the texts we have checked, and each planet page below links only those that exist.
3. Charity and the weekday fast. Giving food, cloth or a small sum on the planet’s day, and keeping a simple fast, where health allows. Lists of what to give differ by region and family, and we say so.
4. The gemstone, last. A stone is a classical remedy, discussed in the gem chapters of the old texts, but choosing one from house lordship is a later practice and it is usually discussed only after a full chart reading. It is never needed. We sell nothing but the reading.

First find out which planet your chart is asking about
A remedy aimed at the wrong planet is just a pleasant habit. Before choosing one, look at what your chart actually says. The free birth chart tool shows your planets and dashas, and the Mahadasha calculator names the planet whose period is running. The planet of the current dasha, the lord of your ascendant and any planet you were told is troubled are the usual three to read first. The guides on planets in the houses, planets in the signs and the dasha periods explain what each placement means in plain words.
The gemstone guide covers the nine stones and the later practice of choosing from house lordship, in case you want to read about that too.
What this guide does not do
We sell nothing but the reading, and nothing here suggests that a remedy is overdue. If someone has told you that disaster follows unless you pay a large sum, read the planet page and then ask a second astrologer. The classical texts speak of conduct, charity and devotion, and they do not tie remedies to a price.
Frequently asked questions
↳ Do Vedic astrology remedies really work?
There is no scientific evidence that a planetary remedy changes events. Within the tradition they are practices of devotion, charity and discipline, and many people find them steadying. We present them as tradition and never as a guarantee.
↳ Which remedy should come first?
Conduct and service, because every teacher puts them first and they cost nothing. Mantra and charity come next. A gemstone is the last and the most optional step, and it is usually discussed only after a full chart has been read.
↳ Can I do remedies for more than one planet?
Yes, but it is simpler and easier to keep up with one or two. Many people choose the planet of the running dasha and one more that the chart highlights, and add to that only if they find the habit easy.
↳ Are expensive pujas necessary?
No. The texts speak of conduct, mantra and charity, and a home practice is considered sufficient by most teachers. If you wish to arrange a ceremony for your own reasons, that is your choice, but it is not a requirement of any remedy.
↳ Do remedies replace medical or legal help?
Never. If you are unwell, worried about money or facing a legal matter, see a doctor, adviser or lawyer first. Remedies are an addition to practical steps and not a substitute for them.
