In shortTradition's remedies for Rahu begin with honest dealing, a settled daily routine and a limit on chasing the next thing. Devotion to Durga or Shiva, charity and a simple fast on a day your teacher names follow, and hessonite comes last, as an optional step after a full chart reading. Schools differ on Rahu's day and gifts.

Rahu, the north node of the Moon, is not a body but the point where the Moon’s orbit crosses the Sun’s path. Tradition tells of a demon who drank the nectar of immortality and was cut in two, and Rahu is the head. It is the planet of appetite, ambition, the foreign and unfamiliar, technology, sudden turns and obsession. Because it magnifies whatever it touches, readers turn to Rahu remedies during a Rahu dasha, in an eclipse period, or where Rahu sits with the Sun, Moon or the ascendant lord. This page presents what tradition offers and where schools disagree. It does not suggest that Rahu is a threat to you.

Start with conduct and service

Rahu’s remedies are about keeping appetite honest, and they are less about ritual than any other planet’s.

  • Deal honestly. Rahu is linked in the texts with shortcuts, illusion and exaggeration, so the first remedy is plain dealing: no false claims, no cutting corners.
  • Keep a settled routine. Regular meals, sleep and work hours steady a planet that stirs restlessness. Many teachers put this first.
  • Limit screens and the endless scroll. A modern reading of Rahu is the pull of the next notification. A fixed phone-free hour is a Rahu remedy in practical clothing.
  • Do not chase what is not yours. Ambition is not the problem. Being honest about what you want and how you will earn it is the remedy.
  • Serve people at the edges. Rahu is associated with outcasts, migrants and those outside the usual order. Help given to a person from a different background, such as a newcomer or a cleaner, is a Rahu-style act of charity.
  • Keep a tidy space. Many lists connect Rahu with clutter and old, unused things. Clearing a shelf a week is a modest practice.

Mantra and devotion

Traditions link Rahu with Durga in many regions, and with Shiva and his fierce forms in others. The site has these texts.

Rahu beej mantras and their counts differ widely between traditions and are not yet published here, so we do not give them. Choose a Devi text you can read comfortably and keep a regular time.

Charity and the weekday, as tradition describes them

Rahu has no weekday of its own, and teachers do not agree on one. Many keep Saturday, some Wednesday, and some link the practice to Rahu Kaal, the daily period of about ninety minutes that varies by place. Ask your own teacher or follow your family, and do not take any single list as a rule.

  • Charity. Lists vary. Black sesame, blankets, mustard oil, black or dark blue cloth and coconut are commonly named. Helping with someone’s practical need, a warm blanket in winter being the classic example, is the same gesture.
  • A fast. If you keep one, it is generally a light day with one simple meal. If you are unwell, pregnant, elderly or on medication, do not fast, and talk to your doctor. A prayer and a lighter meal is accepted.
  • Feeding birds or dogs. A custom in some households, where practical.

The eclipse pages explain how tradition treats the nodes at an eclipse, and the Rahu Ketu transit page shows where they are moving now. None of these practices is compulsory.

Read your own Rahu before choosing a remedy

Rahu has no sign of its own, and schools differ on where it is exalted or weak: many name Taurus (or Gemini) for exaltation and Scorpio (or Sagittarius) for debilitation. It is read mainly through the sign lord it sits with, the house it occupies and the planets near it. Read the Rahu in all twelve houses and Rahu in each sign guides and the Rahu Mahadasha guide for the eighteen-year period. The Rahu and Ketu past-life blueprint explains the axis and the Rahu Ketu transit calculator shows the nodes by date. For pairings see Sun and Rahu and Moon and Rahu.

The gemstone, last

The stone of Rahu is hessonite (gomed). It is a recognised classical remedy in the tradition, though choosing it from house lordship is a later practice and Rahu has no lordship in the older reckoning, so the decision is even more a matter of teacher and school than for the seven classical planets. Readers who use it look at Rahu’s house, the sign lord, the dasha and the ascendant first, and many decide against a stone and keep to routine and devotion.

The hessonite guide covers who considers it, treatments and laboratory reports, and the traditional way of wearing it, and the gemstones hub covers the others. We sell nothing but the reading, and there is nothing to buy on this page. Anyone who says Rahu will ruin you unless you buy a stone is not speaking from the texts.

Frequently asked questions

↳ What is the best remedy for Rahu?

Tradition starts with honest dealing, a settled routine and a limit on endless chasing. Durga or Shiva devotion, charity and a simple fast on a day your teacher names follow, and hessonite is last and optional.

↳ Which mantra is used for Rahu?

Many people read the Durga Chalisa or the Durga Suktam, or use the verse to Rahu in the Navagraha Stotra. Beej mantras and counts differ between traditions, so follow your family or teacher.

↳ Which day is Rahu's day?

Rahu has no weekday of its own in the classical scheme, and teachers differ. Saturday is common, Wednesday is also named, and some link the practice to Rahu Kaal. Follow the custom of your family or teacher.

↳ Is Rahu dasha dangerous?

No. It is read as a long period of ambition, change and the unfamiliar that can bring real gains as well as confusion. The result depends on Rahu's sign, house and company in your chart, so the dasha alone cannot say.

↳ Should I wear hessonite?

Only after a full chart reading, and only if you wish to. Teachers differ on when it suits a person, and many say it is never needed.
