Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, reads a birth chart cast in the sidereal zodiac, the sky as it actually stands against the stars. This library covers every part of a chart in the same calm, classical way: what each placement means according to texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika, what makes it strong or weak, and when it shows in life. Nothing here is written to frighten you, and nothing is for sale.

Start with your own chart: the free kundali tool works out your planets, houses, nakshatras, yogas and dashas, and every result links back to the guide that explains it.

Frequently asked questions

↳ What is the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which follows the fixed stars, while Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. The two are now about 24 degrees apart, so most people's Vedic signs fall one sign earlier. Vedic astrology also relies on the nakshatras and the dasha system for timing.

↳ Where should a beginner start?

Cast your chart with the free kundali tool, then read the guides for your ascendant, your Moon sign and the nakshatra of your Moon. Those three say more about a chart than any single planet, and the dasha you are running shows what is active now.

↳ Do I need an exact birth time?

For the ascendant and the houses, yes: the ascendant changes about every two hours, and the house positions move with it. Planets in signs and nakshatras, and most yogas, can still be read without an exact time.

↳ Are the guides based on classical texts?

Yes. Each guide states what the classical texts say, names the text only where the point is found there, and says plainly where schools and texts disagree.
