Jupiter is the slowest of the planets that most people track closely after Saturn, and in 2027 it makes three sign changes. It starts the year in Simha (Leo), enters Karka (Cancer) on 25 January 2027, returns to Simha on 26 June 2027, and settles into Kanya (Virgo) on 26 November 2027. The Karka stay is a retrograde dip back into the sign Jupiter left in 2026, and it is the part of the year that most often confuses people who read a single yearly horoscope. This page sets out the dates, explains the dip, and then goes through all twelve Moon signs.
Everything here is sidereal (the Vedic zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa) and in Indian Standard Time. Houses are counted from your Moon sign, the way gochar (transit) is read in the Jyotish tradition, so you need your Moon sign rather than your Sun sign. If you do not know it, the free kundali gives it in seconds.
Jupiter’s year at a glance
| Date | Event | Sign |
|---|---|---|
| 31 October 2026 | Jupiter enters Simha | Simha (Leo) |
| 13 December 2026 | Jupiter turns retrograde at 2 degrees 47 minutes | Simha (Leo) |
| 25 January 2027 | Jupiter slips back into Karka, still retrograde | Karka (Cancer) |
| 13 April 2027 | Jupiter turns direct at 22 degrees 45 minutes | Karka (Cancer) |
| 26 June 2027 | Jupiter re-enters Simha, moving forward | Simha (Leo) |
| 16 August 2027 to 15 September 2027 | Jupiter is combust (too close to the Sun to be seen) | Simha (Leo) |
| 26 November 2027 | Jupiter enters Kanya | Kanya (Virgo) |
| 12 January 2028 | Jupiter turns retrograde at 3 degrees 16 minutes | Kanya (Virgo) |
| 28 February 2028 | Jupiter slips back into Simha for a short spell | Simha (Leo) |
The last two rows fall in 2028 and are given because they follow directly from the Kanya entry: Jupiter’s stay in Virgo opens with a retrograde dip back into Leo, in the same way that its stay in Cancer did.
Why Jupiter goes back into Karka
Jupiter takes about twelve years to circle the zodiac and stays in a sign for roughly a year. Because Earth overtakes it once every thirteen months or so, it appears to slow, stop, drift backwards for about four months, and stop again. Jupiter itself never reverses. If that drift happens close to a sign boundary, the planet crosses the line, retreats over it, and crosses again later.
That is what happens now. Jupiter entered Simha on 31 October 2026, turned retrograde on 13 December 2026 only a few degrees into the sign, and was carried back across the border into Karka on 25 January 2027. It turned direct on 13 April 2027 and climbed back into Simha on 26 June 2027. So for about five months the Jupiter you read about in 2026 is back in its previous sign. This is the same pattern as Saturn’s loop between Pisces and Aries in 2027, covered in our Saturn transit 2027 guide.
Karka matters because it is Jupiter’s sign of exaltation, the sign where the tradition counts it as strongest. Simha is the sign of the Sun, a friend of Jupiter. Kanya belongs to Mercury, which Parashara’s system lists as an enemy of Jupiter, and the tradition accordingly reads Jupiter in Kanya as less comfortable than in Karka or Simha. Treat these as classical descriptions of dignity, not predictions: the house a transit falls in, and your own chart, count for more.
How gochar reads Jupiter
Classical gochar rules, repeated in most panchang writing, count Jupiter as favourable when it passes through the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from the Moon, and as less helpful in the others. Jupiter signifies growth, learning, teachers, children, advice and fortune, so its house shows where those themes are in play.
Two cautions keep this honest. First, the rule is a simple outline and practitioners weigh it alongside the dasha you are running, Jupiter’s place in your birth chart and the other slow planets. Second, a transit describes a climate, not an event. Combustion matters a little too: while Jupiter is combust from 16 August 2027 to 15 September 2027, some practitioners avoid starting ceremonies that call for Jupiter’s blessing, such as weddings, because the planet is called weak and “set” (asta). Panchang traditions differ on how strict to be, so check with your own priest or family custom.

Jupiter 2027 for each Moon sign
Mesha (Aries) Moon
Jupiter’s path from your Moon: the 5th house until 25 January, the 4th from 25 January until 26 June, the 5th from 26 June until 26 November, then the 6th from 26 November.
Jupiter is the lord of your 9th and 12th houses, so fortune and teachers share the year with rest and distance. The months in Karka are the standout, because Jupiter is exalted there and sits in your 4th house of home. The 5th is a favoured house. Learning, creative work, children and a sense of purpose are supported, which makes it a good stretch for starting a course or a long project. In the 4th Jupiter is read as a mixed placement. Home, parents and peace of mind ask for time and care, and decisions about property or study reward patience over haste. In the 6th Jupiter is counted as less helpful. Routine, workload and small disputes take attention, and Jupiter’s gift here is steady service rather than ease.
The whole year is in Mesha rashi 2027.
Vrishabha (Taurus) Moon
Jupiter’s path from your Moon: the 4th house until 25 January, the 3rd from 25 January until 26 June, the 4th from 26 June until 26 November, then the 5th from 26 November.
Jupiter rules your 8th and 11th houses, a mixed pair: research and shared resources on one side, gains and friends on the other. The Karka months fall in your 3rd house, a year for effort with company rather than for luck. In the 4th Jupiter is read as a mixed placement. Home, parents and peace of mind ask for time and care, and decisions about property or study reward patience over haste. The 3rd is not a favoured house for Jupiter. Effort, short journeys, writing and dealing with siblings keep you busy, and results come from persistence rather than luck. The 5th is a favoured house. Learning, creative work, children and a sense of purpose are supported, which makes it a good stretch for starting a course or a long project.
The whole year is in Vrishabha rashi 2027.
Mithuna (Gemini) Moon
Jupiter’s path from your Moon: the 3rd house until 25 January, the 2nd from 25 January until 26 June, the 3rd from 26 June until 26 November, then the 4th from 26 November.
Jupiter rules your 7th and 10th houses, which ties partnership and career to its movements. The Karka months land in your 2nd house, and exalted Jupiter there is a quiet help for family and finances. The 3rd is not a favoured house for Jupiter. Effort, short journeys, writing and dealing with siblings keep you busy, and results come from persistence rather than luck. The 2nd is one of the five houses (2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th) that the classical gochar rule counts as favourable for Jupiter. Family, savings, food and speech tend to be steadier, and generosity comes easily. In the 4th Jupiter is read as a mixed placement. Home, parents and peace of mind ask for time and care, and decisions about property or study reward patience over haste.

Karka (Cancer) Moon

The 2nd is one of the five houses (2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th) that the classical gochar rule counts as favourable for Jupiter. Family, savings, food and speech tend to be steadier, and generosity comes easily. Jupiter over the Moon sign is not among the houses classical gochar counts as helpful. It reads as a stretch of growing self-awareness more than outward gain, and the practical advice is to avoid over-extending yourself. The 3rd is not a favoured house for Jupiter. Effort, short journeys, writing and dealing with siblings keep you busy, and results come from persistence rather than luck.

What helps
The tradition’s advice for Jupiter is the gentlest of any planet: honour teachers, study, give where you can, and keep promises. Thursday is Jupiter’s day and many people keep a simple practice then, such as a modest donation, a visit to a temple or an hour of study. Our guide to Jupiter remedies lays out the order the tradition uses, with practice before purchase.
To see these dates against your own chart, the Jupiter transit calculator shows the house from your Moon sign and a sign-by-sign path, and the personal transit report combines Saturn, Jupiter and the nodes. Our rashifal 2027 hub has the full year for each Moon sign, and the live transits page shows where every planet is today.
Frequently asked questions
↳ When does Jupiter change sign in 2027?
Jupiter enters Karka (Cancer) on 25 January 2027, returns to Simha (Leo) on 26 June 2027 and enters Kanya (Virgo) on 26 November 2027. These are sidereal dates in Indian Standard Time, worked out from the Swiss Ephemeris. Panchangs that use a different ayanamsa can differ by a few hours.
↳ Why is Jupiter in Cancer again in 2027 if it was in Leo in 2026?
Jupiter turned retrograde on 13 December 2026, only a few degrees into Leo, and the backward motion carried it over the boundary into Cancer. It turned direct on 13 April 2027 and went back into Leo on 26 June 2027. Jupiter does not reverse, it only appears to, so this is ordinary retrograde motion near a sign boundary.
↳ Which Moon signs get the best Jupiter transit in 2027?
The classical rule favours Jupiter in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from the Moon. In 2027 that gives Mesha the early 5th house, Mithuna the Karka months, Meena the 5th and 7th, Kumbha the 7th for most of the year, and Tula the 11th. It is an outline, and your own dasha and chart decide how it plays out.
↳ Does Jupiter transit matter more than Saturn?
Neither outranks the other. Saturn describes where responsibility and slow work gather, while Jupiter shows where support and growth are available. Practitioners read both from the Moon sign together with the running dasha, and the birth chart has the final say.
↳ Is it a bad time for weddings while Jupiter is combust?
Many panchang traditions avoid starting weddings when Jupiter is combust, which falls from 16 August 2027 to 15 September 2027 this year. Practice varies by region and family, so ask your priest or elders. The combustion is a short, fixed window, and nothing about it is a prediction for any one person.
Method
Positions are computed from the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa, using the same engine as the site’s transit tools, and times are in Indian Standard Time. Ingress times for slow planets can differ by an hour or more between sources because a sign boundary is crossed slowly, so use the date as the guide and the time as approximate.
