A yoga (literally “union” or “joining”) is a named combination in a birth chart: planets in particular houses or signs, lords of houses joined together, or a pattern formed by the whole chart. The classical texts, above all Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika and Saravali, describe hundreds of them.
Two things are worth knowing before you read any of these guides. First, a yoga shows potential, not a guarantee: the same yoga can be powerful in one chart and almost silent in another, depending on the strength of the planets that form it. Second, a yoga gives its results mainly in the dashas of those planets. Each guide explains the exact rule, what the texts say, when the yoga is strong or weak, what cancels it, and when it activates.
The free kundali tool lists the yogas it finds in your chart, with the rule that fired, so you can check each one against these guides.
