About this piece
Kansa is an alloy of copper and tin, also called bell metal. This plate is a single thaali in that metal. The photos show a polished, golden-brown surface with a wide flat centre and a shallow raised rim.
The seller says kansa needs no extra coating or tin lining, that no two pieces are exactly alike, and that colour and tone vary because each plate is handmade. It suits someone who wants one kansa plate rather than a full set.
How it is used
A thaali is the large plate on which an Indian meal is served, often with small bowls placed on it. Kansa plates have long been used for everyday meals and for serving at festivals in many households.
