About this piece
A handmade brass diya that pairs a lamp bowl with a small seated Ganesha. In the photos the figure sits under a tall arch at the back, and the bowl, with a scalloped rim, sits on a footed base with lotus-petal bands.
At 16.5 cm tall and about 1.5 kg it is a solid piece, sized for a shelf or a small altar. The finish is antique brass with darker recesses, so the carving stands out.
How it is used
Many homes light an oil or ghee lamp in front of Ganesha at the start of a puja, and a lamp like this can stand on the altar shelf for that. It is also kept on the Diwali puja shelf in many homes.
Looking after it
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
- Clean off oil after use so it does not collect in the carving.
