About this piece
The Rider tarot deck, also known as Rider Waite, in the U.S. Games edition. The seller says Pamela Colman Smith drew the 78 cards in 1909 under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite, and that this edition includes Smith's original hand drawn titles.
Its picture cards show full scenes with figures and symbols in every suit, which the seller notes lets readers interpret a card without constantly checking the text. Many later decks follow its designs, so it is a common first deck for a beginner.
How it is used
Tarot decks are used for card readings. The cards are shuffled, a question is held in mind, and cards are laid out in a spread. Beginners usually work from a guidebook or booklet while they learn the card meanings.
