About this piece
This pot is made of brass with a hammered outer surface and a tin (kalai) lining. The seller says it has a wider mouth than the earlier design, and a full lid with no cut for the spoon. The spoon rests on top of the lid, as the photos show.
It holds 500 ml, measures about 11.4 cm across and 8.9 cm high, and weighs 0.3 kg. It suits a kitchen that wants a small container for ghee on the counter or at the dining table.
How it is used
A small pot like this is traditionally used to hold ghee for cooking or serving. The tin lining is the traditional way of lining brass vessels that hold food.
Looking after it
- The seller advises mild soap and a soft sponge, and no steel wool.
- Dry it straight away to avoid watermarks.
