About this piece
A brass oil diya covered by a borosilicate glass dome in small, medium and large sizes. This listing is the small one. The dome sits over the brass lamp so the flame is shielded from draughts, which is the idea behind an akhand jyot, a lamp meant to burn without a break.
In the photos the brass bowl has a short wick holder and sits on a small plate under the glass. The seller gives no size in words, though a size graphic is shown in the photos.
How it is used
An akhand jyot is a lamp kept lit without a break, for example through Navratri or a long puja. The glass cover keeps draughts off the flame. Put it on a stable, heat-safe surface and keep it clear of curtains.
Looking after it
- Let the glass cool before you touch or clean it.
- Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth.
