About this piece
An Akhand Jyot is a lamp meant to stay lit for a long stretch, often through a vigil or the nine nights of Navratri. This one from Ekhasa has a brass oil bowl under a borosilicate glass cover, with a screw lever that raises or lowers the wick without touching it.
The seller lists a 250 ml oil capacity, up to 48 hours of burning and a wick included. The photos show it on a brass plate with flowers around it. It suits a home puja room that keeps a long burning lamp.
How it is used
Placed in the puja room or on the altar and filled with oil or ghee. Many homes light an Akhand Jyot for Navratri or for a long recital. Use the lever on the side to raise or lower the wick.
Looking after it
- Let the lamp cool before moving or cleaning it.
- Wipe the brass with a soft cloth and polish it when it dulls.
