About this piece
This Akhand deep keeps a small brass diya inside a clear glass cover, topped with a decorated brass lid. It stands on a flat brass base, about 12 cm (4.8 inches) tall and 8 cm across. The seller says the cover protects the flame from moving air.
It is a compact lamp for a home mandir or a shelf, smaller than most Akhand Jyot lamps. The photos show the diya with and without its cover, and a drawing of the size.
How it is used
Placed in a home mandir or on a puja shelf and lit with oil or ghee and a cotton wick. Many homes light a small diya at the start of the morning or evening prayers.
Looking after it
- Let the lamp cool before lifting the glass.
- Wipe the brass with a soft cloth and polish it when it dulls.
