About this piece
A handheld ritual lamp in brass. An open bowl for oil or a ghee wick sits on a carved, footed base, and a curved handle rises beside it with a small bell hanging from the top.
It is 10 cm tall, 13.5 cm wide and 7 cm deep, and weighs 530 g. In aarti, a lit lamp is waved in circles before the deity, and this one suits a home that does aarti with a lamp held in the hand, or a small puja room.
How it is used
Filled with oil or ghee and lit with a wick for aarti, then held by the handle and waved before the deity. When it is not in use, many homes keep such a lamp on the puja shelf.
Looking after it
- Wipe the brass with a soft dry cloth.
- Wash off old oil with warm soapy water and dry well.
