About this piece

A small round puja thali in brass, handmade in India. The photos show a shallow plate with a ridged edge and a raised figure of Ganesha seated in the centre, in a warm gold finish.

It is 19 cm (7.5 inches) across and weighs only 100 g, so it is light and easy to carry. It suits a small altar, offerings of fruit or sweets, or a lamp and incense.

How it is used

A small thali like this holds a lamp, incense, flowers, kumkum or prasad at the altar. Ganesha is traditionally worshipped first in a puja, and many homes keep an image of him at the start of any ritual.

Looking after it

  • Dust with a soft dry cloth.
  • Wash by hand and dry fully; clean with a brass cleaner if it darkens.
