About this piece
A jal shankha is a conch used to hold and pour water in puja and abhishek, rather than to be blown. The seller describes this one as a natural white conch from the Indian Ocean, about 11 cm by 7 cm, inspected piece by piece before dispatch.
The photos show a smooth, creamy white shell on a plain beige ground and on a wooden table among books and a plant.
How it is used
The seller says a jal shankha is traditionally kept on a small stand to the right of the deity with its mouth turned upward, not on the floor of the mandir. It holds water for abhishek and daily puja.
Looking after it
- Empty it, rinse it and let it dry fully after each puja. The seller says water left standing can cause staining and odour.
