About this piece
A tulsi japa mala of small cream beads, 108 plus one guru bead, 5 mm each, knotted between the beads and finished with a tassel. The seller sells it under the Mayapuri brand, which is based in Nabadwip, West Bengal, and the photos show it in a clear zip pouch.
The 5 mm beads make it a light, compact mala. Tulsi is the holy basil plant sacred in Vaishnava practice, and tulsi beads are often used for japa to Vishnu or Krishna.
How it is used
A japa mala is held in the right hand and counted bead by bead while repeating a mantra, with the guru bead marking the end of a round. Tulsi malas are common in Vaishnava homes.
