About this piece
Mahishasura Mardini is the form of Goddess Durga who, in the Devi Mahatmya story, defeats the buffalo demon Mahishasura. This handmade brass statue shows the goddess with many raised arms, on a stepped base with a lion beside her.
It is 20 cm tall and weighs 1.45 kg, a size that suits a shelf or a small altar. The finish is bright, polished brass with fine detail on the crown, ornaments and arms.
How it is used
Durga images are worshipped in many homes and are brought into special focus during Navaratri. A small brass figure is often set on a clean altar with a lamp and flowers placed before it.
