About this piece
Nataraja is Shiva as the lord of dance, shown in the Tandava with one leg raised and the other resting on a small figure, inside a circle of flames. This brass statue stands on a lotus-shaped base on a square plinth, in a polished gold finish.
It is 20.5 cm (8 inch) tall, 16.5 cm wide and weighs 630 g, a size that suits a shelf, a desk or a small altar.
How it is used
Nataraja is familiar from the bronzes of Tamil temples. At home, a small brass Nataraja is kept on a shrine shelf or displayed as a piece of art, and many people place it beside other Shiva images.
