About this piece
Saraswati is usually shown seated. This brass figure shows her dancing on one foot while she plays the veena, with coloured stones set into her clothes, crown and base.
The photos show red, blue and green stones, a crowned face and a stepped square base. It stands 35.5 cm tall and weighs 4.22 kg, so it is sized for a shrine or a larger shelf.
How it is used
Saraswati is the goddess of learning and music in Hindu tradition. Many homes and students keep her image on a study shelf or in the shrine, and she is remembered on Vasant Panchami.
Looking after it
- Dust with a soft dry cloth.
