About this piece
A bronze Saraswati, the goddess of learning, music and the arts in Hindu tradition. She sits on a lotus seat with a veena across her lap and four arms. The photos show a blue green patina over the bronze, with the lotus petals and the veena picked out in detail.
It stands 14 cm (5.5 in) tall and weighs 870 g, a handy size for a desk, a shelf or a small altar.
How it is used
Saraswati images are often kept where books are read or music is practised, and many homes place one on a study shelf or a small altar. Some families place books and instruments near her image during Vasant Panchami.
Looking after it
- Dust with a soft dry cloth.
- Avoid harsh cleaners, which can strip a patina finish.
