About this piece
Nataraja is Shiva as the lord of dance. This brass figure shows him dancing inside a ring of flames on a stepped base, in a gold tone with orange touches, as the photos show.
At 28.5 cm tall and about 2.5 kg it is sized for a shelf or a small altar. The seller lists it as handmade in India. The photos include a close view of the face and one of the base.
How it is used
Nataraja is associated in tradition with Shiva's cosmic dance. Many homes keep the figure on a shelf or a console, facing the room, and some place it in a shrine.
Looking after it
- Dust with a soft dry cloth.
- Keep away from damp, which can mark brass.
