About this piece
Nataraja is Shiva as the lord of dance. This large brass figure shows him dancing on a stepped base, with flowing hair, raised arms and a small seated figure at the foot of the base, as the photos show.
The finish is dark brass with orange gold highlights. It stands 45.5 cm tall and weighs 8.45 kg, so it suits a shrine or a large shelf.
How it is used
Nataraja is linked in tradition with Shiva's cosmic dance. Many homes keep the figure on a console or in a shrine, and some dance schools keep one as a mark of respect for the art.
