About this piece
A brass statue of Shiva as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. In the photos he dances inside an open ring of flames on a round base, in gold-toned brass with darker coppery details. The seller says it is handcrafted from pure brass, in a medium size, and weighs 490 g.
The seller's size graphic shows about 15 cm tall and 11 cm wide.
How it is used
Nataraja is Shiva's dancing form, and in tradition the dance stands for creation, preservation and dissolution. The seller suggests a console or open shelf, so the raised leg and ring of flames stay clear to see rather than lost in a crowded altar.
Looking after it
- Clean the gaps in the ring with a dry soft brush.
- A wet cloth leaves water marks inside the openwork that are hard to reach.
