About this piece
Nataraja, Shiva as the lord of dance, carved by hand in Orissa stone with a reddish brown colour and some natural variation in tone. The photos show the dancing pose with the small figure beneath his foot, set on a low lotus base.
The statue is 26.5 cm (10.5 in) tall and weighs 4 kg. It is a solid piece for a shelf, a study or a home altar. The seller lists it as 11 inch.
How it is used
Nataraja is a favourite image in homes and studios, and dancers often keep one near the practice space. Many families also place one on the Shiva altar next to a lingam.
Looking after it
- Dust with a soft dry cloth.
- Keep away from oil and water marks, which can darken natural stone.
