About this piece
This idol shows Surya Dev, the Sun and one of the Navagrahas. The seller describes a crowned, jewelled figure standing on a dais with the right hand in abhaya mudra, the left in varada mudra and lotuses in the upper arms, with a circle for the Sun behind the head.
The photos show a pale bronze finish with a ridged halo. The seller says artisans of South India made it. It suits a home altar, a living area or a desk.
How it is used
Sunday is the weekday traditionally linked with Surya. Idols like this are placed on a home altar, in a living area or on a desk, and many homes recite the Sun's mantra in front of them.
