About this piece
This mala strings 108 sandalwood, or chandan, beads. The beads are light golden in the photos and carry the scent of sandalwood. A yellow tassel hangs from the end.
The seller offers the mala in four bead sizes, and this link is for 6 mm. A mala bag is included. Sandalwood malas are traditionally used for japa, especially in Vaishnav and Devi practice, and also worn.
How it is used
The beads are counted one at a time with the thumb as a mantra is said, 108 times for one round. Many people also wear a sandalwood mala. Keep it in its bag when not in use so the scent and wood stay in good condition.
Looking after it
- Keep it in the bag, away from water and strong perfumes.
