About this piece
This tawa is a broad, shallow brass pan for dosas, with a hammered surface and side handles. The seller says it is lined with tin (kalai), and the photos show a silver-coloured, hammered inside.
It measures 40.64 x 30.38 x 2.54 cm and weighs 1.4 kg. The seller says it can be used on gas and in the oven. It suits a home that makes dosas, uttapams or other thin breads on a large flat pan.
How it is used
A tawa this size is used to make dosas, chilla or large flatbreads. Heat it on a low to medium flame, as the seller advises, and use a flat spatula so the tin lining is not scratched.
Looking after it
- Wash with mild soap and a soft sponge.
- Avoid steel wool and scratching the lining.
