About this piece
A small brass lamp whose bowl sits in the middle of a carved, flower-shaped plate. The petals have a beaded border and fine line work, and the plate rests on three short curled feet. One photo shows it lit, with a wick in the bowl.
It is. The page we read gave no measurements.
How it is used
A diya like this is lit with oil and a cotton wick, or with ghee, at the daily puja or on the altar shelf. Many homes set out extra lamps at Diwali, and a carved piece can be kept on a tray so oil does not reach the surface below.
Looking after it
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
- Clean oil from the carving while the brass is still slightly warm.
