About this piece
Ashtalakshmi means the eight forms of Lakshmi in Hindu tradition. This brass lamp has a wide oil bowl on a carved, footed base, with a tall arch behind it made of round medallions and figures. Small elephant figures stand near the bowl.
It is 25.5 cm tall, 15 cm wide and deep, and weighs 550 g. It is handmade in India, and it suits a puja shelf or altar.
How it is used
Lit with oil or ghee and a wick in the puja room, often on festival days such as Diwali in homes that honour Lakshmi. Many homes keep a decorative brass lamp near the mandir.
