About this piece
This mala is sold as black rudraksha, with 108 polished beads of 8 mm and a red tassel. A mala bag comes with it.
The seller describes a classic black polished finish. Rudraksha seeds are naturally brown, so please ask the seller how the black colour is made. The photos show the mala on a bust beside small brass objects, a man wearing it over a white shirt, and a size graphic. The mala is meant for japa.
How it is used
A mala like this is used for japa, moving one bead at a time with the thumb. The seller says to rest the mala in its bag while chanting, so the beads stay off the floor, and to keep it out of long soaks and sunlight. The Shiva Purana gives each faced bead its own deity, and our rudraksha guide lists them.
Looking after it
- Keep it out of water and direct sunlight, as the seller advises.
