About this piece
A tulsi mala of cream coloured beads, 108 in all, each 7 mm, finished with a tassel. The photo shows it beside its box and a flute with a peacock feather. The seller sells it under the Paraayan brand.
It is a small mala for japa, or to wear around the neck. Tulsi is the holy basil plant sacred in Vaishnava practice, and tulsi beads are often used for japa to Vishnu or Krishna.
How it is used
A japa mala is held in the right hand and counted bead by bead while repeating a mantra. Tulsi malas are common in Vaishnava homes and are also worn around the neck.
Looking after it
