About this piece
A loose 14 mukhi rudraksha bead of the small grade, from Java in Indonesia. The photos show a single oval bead in a light tan colour with fine ridges, seen from the face, the side and along its hole.
As a loose bead it can be strung on a cord or kept in a puja space.
How it is used
A loose bead is usually threaded on a cord for the neck or wrist, or kept on an altar. The Shiva Purana (Vidyeshvara Samhita 25, verse 80) calls the fourteen-faced bead the highest Shiva. Astrologers today pair this bead with Saturn (Shani); the pairing is a later convention, not a statement of the Purana, and it is the one this site uses in its rudraksha guide and free kundali.
Looking after it
