About this piece
A hanging temple bell in brass, listed by the seller as a Navagraha bell and made by hand in India. The photos show a domed bell with rows of small carved panels around the body, a ring at the top and a long decorated chain.
The bell is 16.5 cm tall and 8.9 cm across, the chain is 66 cm (26 inches) long, and the whole piece weighs 2.06 kg. It is made to hang at a shrine, a doorway or a puja room.
How it is used
Temple bells are rung when entering a shrine and during aarti, and many homes hang a small one near the altar or at the puja room door. This one is meant to hang from its chain, for example from a hook or bracket.
