About this piece
A hawan kund is the vessel in which the fire of a hawan or yagya is made. This one is plain copper with a square, stepped bowl and two ring handles, one on each side, and a flat base so it sits steady on a surface.
The seller lists it as 4.5 inches across. It is made by Indian Art Villa of Jaipur. Its small size suits a short home hawan, not a large one. The seller says that wood, dhoop and ghee are burnt in it.
How it is used
The seller says that small pieces of wood, dhoop and ghee are burnt in the kund during a hawan. The two handles are for lifting and moving it. Place it on a heat safe plate or sand.
Looking after it
- Clean with lemon and salt, then dry well.
- Let it cool fully before moving it.
