About this piece
A mala of 108 turmeric beads, made for chanting. The one photo shows round yellow-orange beads with a rough, earthy surface, strung on a loop with a slightly larger bead at the join.
It is 36 inches (91 cm) long, the beads average 7 mm and the whole mala weighs 40 g. As turmeric is a root, the beads are natural and may vary in colour and size.
How it is used
Turmeric malas are traditionally used in the worship of Bagalamukhi, and some people use them for Guru (Jupiter) mantras. A mala is held and counted bead by bead while a mantra is repeated.
