About this piece
A mala of natural rudraksha beads finished with a silver bead cap and an orange tassel. The photos show dark, closely strung beads, almost black, with a tassel in coral orange hanging at the front.
The seller lists it as natural rudraksha and sterling silver, 14 inches (36 cm) long and 19.2 g, and says it comes certified. The seller does not state the number of beads. The identification card in the photos reads 5 mukhi, colour black, beads about 7 x 6 mm.
How it is used
Rudraksha is traditionally linked with Shiva, and malas are held and counted bead by bead while a mantra is repeated. The tassel marks the start and end of a round. The Shiva Purana (Vidyeshvara Samhita 25, verses 69 to 70) calls the five-faced bead Rudra himself, named Kalagni. Astrologers today pair this bead with Jupiter (Guru); the pairing is a later convention, not a statement of the Purana, and it is the one this site uses in its rudraksha guide and free kundali.
