In shortRevati is the twenty-seventh and last nakshatra, lying from 16 degrees 40 minutes to 30 degrees of Pisces, ruled by Mercury with Pushan, the guide of travellers, as its deity. It is known for kindness, protection and safe journeys.

Revati is the twenty-seventh and last of the 27 nakshatras, the lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. It fills the final stretch of Pisces, from 16 degrees 40 minutes to 30 degrees, and with it the zodiac comes round to the start again at Ashwini. The name is usually read as “the wealthy” or “the bountiful”, and the symbol is a fish or a pair of fish. The nakshatra is read as the mansion of completion and of safe passage.

The deity and the story

The deity is Pushan, a Vedic god of roads, journeys and herds. The Rigveda has several hymns to him, and he is the shepherd who looks after cattle, finds what is lost and guides people along the way. He is pictured with a goad, and in some hymns as a toothless god who is given porridge, a detail that later tradition links to a story in which he lost his teeth. He also leads the dead along the path to the next world, a role that suits the last nakshatra.

The idea of a guide that watches over travellers is why Revati is linked with journeys, with care for animals and with the protection of the weak. The fish of the symbol belong to water, to movement and to the blending of earth and sky, and the pair of fish is the old image for two directions at once.

Revati stands next to Ashwini, with the junction between Pisces and Aries lying between them. Like the Jyeshtha to Moola border, this is a gandanta, a water to fire junction, and teachers describe it as a point of ending and beginning. Views differ on how much it matters for a chart.

Temperament in the classical texts

Traditional descriptions of a person born in Revati speak of kindness, gentleness and an eye for those in need. The lists mention a love of animals, a caring and protective nature, a taste for travel and the arts, a pleasant manner, and an intuitive mind. Such a person is described as someone others turn to for comfort.

The cautions concern the soft side: being too trusting, taking on other people’s troubles, and vagueness about money and plans. Mercury rules the nakshatra and adds wit, an interest in words and numbers and a flexible mind. The Deva gana is the gentlest of the three classes in the old scheme.

All of these are tendencies teachers describe, not promises. The sign, Mercury’s placement and the rest of the chart decide how they appear.

The four padas

Pada Span Navamsa sign Syllable
1 16° 40′ to 20° 00′ Pisces Sagittarius De
2 20° 00′ to 23° 20′ Pisces Capricorn Do
3 23° 20′ to 26° 40′ Pisces Aquarius Cha
4 26° 40′ to 30° 00′ Pisces Pisces Chi

Pada 1 (De, navamsa Sagittarius). Jupiter’s navamsa gives the first pada a generous, philosophical and teaching quality. It is read as the most optimistic of the four, with the caution of over-promising.

Pada 2 (Do, navamsa Capricorn). Saturn’s navamsa makes the second pada serious and practical. It is linked with careful work, responsibility to family and a steady build-up of security.

Pada 3 (Cha, navamsa Aquarius). Another Saturn navamsa gives the third pada a detached, humane and inventive flavour. Teachers connect it with technology, groups and ideas for public good.

Pada 4 (Chi, navamsa Pisces). Jupiter’s navamsa of Pisces, the sign of Revati itself, makes this pada the most spiritual, imaginative and compassionate. It is called the end of the zodiac, and the caution is poor boundaries.

Each planet in Revati

The site has a guide to every planet in this nakshatra. Each one reads the planet through the themes of care, guidance and safe journeys.

Compatibility and matching

Revati is in the Deva gana. In the tables the calculator uses, Deva with Deva or with Manushya scores six points as bride and five as groom, and Deva with Rakshasa scores nothing when the bride is Deva and one when she is Rakshasa. Teachers weigh gana differently, and some treat it only as a comparison of temperament.

The yoni is the elephant (Gaja). The same animal scores highest, and the lion (Simha) is the one listed as the sworn enemy, giving zero on that kuta. It is a symbolic scheme about instinct and comfort, not a forecast.

Revati is in the Antya (Kapha) nadi. Two people with the same nadi score nothing out of eight on the nadi kuta, and many astrologers apply the traditional exceptions. A different nadi scores the full eight. Nakshatra points are one input to a full chart comparison, and no pairing is called best or worst here.

To compare two nakshatras directly, use the nakshatra compatibility calculator. Treat its points as one input to a conversation, not a verdict on any relationship.

Names and the naming syllables

The four syllables are De, Do, Cha and Chi, one for each pada. In the Hindu naming tradition the Moon’s pada at birth chooses the first sound of the name.

Because Revati is the last nakshatra, its fourth pada is also the last quarter of the whole zodiac. If the birth time is uncertain, families sometimes choose among the four sounds.

The full list of boy and girl names for each syllable is on the Revati nakshatra baby names page, and the baby names by date of birth tool works out the pada and syllable from a birth date, time and place.

Find your nakshatra

The nakshatra depends on where the Moon stood at the moment of birth, so it needs the birth date, time and place. The nakshatra calculator gives it with the pada, and the nakshatra at a date and time calculator shows which nakshatra the Moon is in at any chosen moment. A Moon in the last degrees of Revati is close to Ashwini, so the exact birth time matters there.
