About this piece
A seated Parshvanatha, the twenty-third Tirthankara, carved by hand in white wood. The photos show a light honey-brown finish, a serpent hood curving over the head, coils forming the seat and a carved panel on the base.
It is 28 cm tall, 15 cm wide and only 300 g, so it is light to place and move. It suits a home shrine shelf.
How it is used
Many Jain homes keep a Tirthankara image in a small, clean shrine and begin the day with a lamp and a short prayer. Parshvanatha is usually shown under a serpent hood, as in this piece.
Looking after it
- Dust with a soft dry cloth.
- Keep away from water, damp and direct sun, which can mark wood.
