About this piece
Parshvanatha is the 23rd Tirthankara of Jainism, shown with a canopy of serpent hoods over his head. This handmade brass statue shows him seated in the meditation posture with hands in the lap, in a warm gold finish.
It is 11.5 cm (4.6 inch) tall, 7 cm wide and weighs 600 g. The size suits a small shrine, a desk or a travel altar. The photos show the serpent coil running down the back.
How it is used
Many Jain homes keep a Tirthankara image in a small, clean shrine. Parshvanatha is recognised by the serpent hoods, and a small figure like this suits a shelf, a desk or a travel altar.
