About this piece
Mahavira is the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. This brass statue shows him standing upright with the arms hanging by his sides, a posture called kayotsarga, on a base with carved leaf and floral detail, in a bright gold finish.
It is 23 cm (9 inch) tall, 12.5 cm wide and weighs 1.63 kg. That suits a home shrine shelf or a prayer room. The photos show a carved back as well.
How it is used
Many Jain homes keep a Tirthankara image in a small, clean shrine, and begin the day there with a short prayer. A standing image like this is placed on a shelf where it can be seen from the front.
