About this piece
A square brass plate for abhishekam, the ritual pouring of water, milk or other liquids over a deity. The photos show a flat gold-coloured tray with a hammered, dimpled surface and a low raised lip all round.
It is 35 cm wide and about 1 cm deep and weighs 1,120 g. The seller says the raised edge keeps liquids from running over and that the plate is large enough for puja offerings.
How it is used
Abhishekam is often done to a Shiva lingam, with the plate set under it to catch the liquids. The plate can also hold other puja offerings at a home altar.
Looking after it
- Wash by hand and dry fully.
- Use a brass cleaner if it darkens.
