Jupiter-Rahu is the ninth and last sub-period of the 16-year Jupiter Mahadasha and lasts about 2 years, 4 months and 24 days. It is the final stretch before Saturn Mahadasha begins. Jupiter stands for wisdom, tradition, teachers and dharma. Rahu, the north node of the Moon, stands for ambition, hunger for more, foreign and unfamiliar things, technology and breaking convention. The two are often described as a meeting of tradition and disruption.

Readers often look this period up because it sits at a turning point. It closes one 16-year chapter and leads into Saturn’s long, serious one, so it often feels like a last push before the tone changes. Some people also know it by an old astrological nickname, the Guru Chandal combination, and want to know what that actually means.

The combination of Jupiter and Rahu, when they sit together in a chart, is traditionally called Guru Chandal Yoga. Some astrologers see it as a clash between guidance and appetite that can produce confusion in belief or advice. Others see it as a sign of unusual, wide-ranging wisdom. • Not a yogakaraka. Rahu owns no sign, so it cannot be a yogakaraka (lord of a kendra and a trikona). Jupiter holds no such status either. Strength therefore comes from the sign lord and general placement.
