About this piece
This idol shows Ketu, the south node of the Moon and one of the Navagrahas. The seller describes him in serpentine form, with a sword in one hand and the other in abhaya mudra, and says it was handcrafted by South Indian artists in heavy bronze.
In the photos the lower body is coiled in rings below a standing human upper body, on a stepped dais. It suits a home altar or a quiet shelf for those who include Ketu in their worship.
How it is used
Idols of the Navagrahas are usually placed on a home altar or shrine shelf. Many homes keep one at the altar and offer a lamp and flowers. Ketu is traditionally linked with detachment and liberation in Vedic astrology.
Looking after it
