The Mars-Mercury antardasha is the fifth sub-period of the Mars Mahadasha and lasts about 11 months and 27 days, nearly a full year. It follows the slow, heavy Mars-Saturn stretch and brings a change of pace: the mind wakes up. Mercury, the planet of intellect, speech, trade and analysis, meets Mars, the planet of action.

People look this pairing up because it combines two very different temperaments. Mercury is light and curious, Mars is forceful and direct. The mix can produce quick thinking and effective action, or sharp words and hasty decisions, depending on how the two sit together in a chart.
