In shortVenus and Ketu together join love and beauty with release, and are read as a refined, private and sometimes detached approach to relationships, comfort and money, or a taste for spiritual art. Ketu is a node opposite Rahu, so the pair is the inward end of the Venus and node axis. The sign, house and Venus's distance from the Sun decide how it shows.

Venus is love, beauty, comfort and the pleasure of company. Ketu is the point of release, the headless node that does not seek an audience and does not hold on. When the two share a sign, the person often has real sensitivity to beauty and to people, together with a pull to step back from the usual rewards. Some describe it as loving deeply and quietly, others as finding it hard to settle in comfort. This page reads the pair calmly, as a tendency and not a verdict.

How the conjunction forms

The rule: Venus and Ketu occupy the same sidereal sign. Ketu is the node exactly opposite Rahu and moves backwards through the zodiac at about 18 months per sign. Venus runs forwards round the zodiac in about a year, so it meets Ketu roughly once a year and stays in its sign for a few weeks. About one chart in twelve carries the pair.

Because Ketu is opposite Rahu, Rahu sits in the 7th sign from the pair, so Venus looks across at Rahu by opposition. This is the same axis as Venus and Rahu, seen from the other end. Venus also stays within about 47 degrees of the Sun, so the pair is often near the Sun.

Ketu in tradition

In the myth, Ketu is the headless body of the demon, a being without a face to show. It stands for release, past-life skill, spiritual search and a knowledge that does not come from outside. See Rahu and Ketu: the past-life blueprint. Because it has no body, Ketu is not treated as combust. What counts is how close it is to Venus and how the sign lord stands.

Where Rahu magnifies Venus, Ketu quietens it. The classical friendship tables are not uniform about the nodes, and teachers differ: some read Ketu as dimming Venus’s ease in pleasure and relationships, others as refining Venus into devotion, craft or art that is done for its own sake. The two readings often describe the same person at different ages.

Combustion

Venus is combust within 10 degrees of the Sun on this site’s orb (8 when retrograde), and nodes are not. If the pair is near the Sun, a combust Venus is read by many teachers as less able to give ease in love and comfort, and Ketu adds to the sense of looking from outside. Others hold that Venus’s gifts still come through. See Sun and Venus and Sun and Ketu.

What it points to

Quiet depth in love. A person who may not announce their feelings, and who often prefers a few real bonds to a wide circle.

Detachment from comfort. Material pleasure can feel less important than it appears to others, and the person may give up a comfort without regret or struggle to enjoy one.

Spiritual art. A taste for devotional music, sacred art, simple craft and anything done with attention and no audience.

Relationships. Distance, an unusual timing, or a partner who is spiritually inclined or from afar. These are themes and not predictions, and the 7th house and its lord carry the decisive detail.

Money. A modest or unsentimental approach, with a possible gap between earning and enjoying. Nothing here is a promise.

Work. Healing and the arts, music, craft, design, counselling, research, spiritual teaching, textiles and fields behind the scenes.

Shadow side. Withdrawing from a partner when feelings run high, or a habit of undervaluing oneself. Saying what you need, plainly, helps.

Health. Traditional lists connect Venus with the kidneys, skin and hormones, and Ketu with the nervous system, as symbolism and not diagnosis. A doctor is the right guide for any health concern.

Named yogas

There is no widely accepted classical yoga named for Venus and Ketu. What deserves a check is whether Venus is strong on its own: Malavya Yoga asks for Venus in its own or exalted sign in a kendra, and the Pancha Mahapurusha finder tests it. If every planet lies between the nodes, the chart may fall under Kaal Sarp Dosha, a separate question.

How the sign changes it

  • Taurus: Venus is in its own sign, while many teachers call Ketu weak here. A love of comfort meets a pull to let it go.
  • Libra: Venus is in its own sign. Partnership and fairness are strong, and Ketu asks for independence within them.
  • Pisces: Venus is exalted and Pisces is the sign of moksha. Devotion, music and compassion are strong.
  • Virgo: Venus is debilitated. Critical or reserved about pleasure; check Neecha Bhanga.
  • Scorpio and Sagittarius: Ketu is often cited as comfortable in these signs, though schools differ. Depth and philosophy are themes.
  • Others: read the sign lord for support.

How the house changes it

  • 1st: a graceful, reserved and slightly mysterious presence.
  • 2nd: a quiet attitude to money and a measured way of speaking.
  • 4th: home as a retreat and a simple, peaceful setting; Venus is strong by direction here.
  • 5th: devotional creativity, music and study done for love.
  • 7th: partnership asks for openness, as Rahu faces the pair.
  • 9th: a spiritual or philosophical approach to love and beauty.
  • 10th: a career based on skill and quality rather than display.
  • 12th: the traditional home of solitude, retreat and pleasure that is private; many teachers read Venus as comfortable here.
  • 3rd, 6th and 11th: effort and gains that come quietly and indirectly.
  • 8th: deep, private feeling and research into the hidden.

Timing

The pair speaks in the Venus (20 years) and Ketu (7 years) mahadashas, and in the antardashas inside each other: Venus and Ketu and Ketu and Venus. The 2026 to 2028 node transit is a background timing, covered in Rahu and Ketu transit 2026 to 2028.

What helps

A creative practice done for its own sake, one or two people to whom you say what you feel, and enough simple comfort to stay well. Any devotional practice is a personal choice and not a requirement.

Checking it in your chart

  1. Find the sidereal signs of Venus and Ketu. If they match, the pair is present.
  2. Measure the gap. Programs use the mean or the true node, which can differ by a degree or two.
  3. Check Venus’s dignity and its distance from the Sun, then the house.
  4. Look at Rahu opposite and at Jupiter’s aspect on the pair.
  5. Check the dashas.

Frequently asked questions

↳ What does Venus and Ketu together mean?

It describes a refined, private and sometimes detached approach to love, beauty and comfort. It is a tendency, and its weight depends on the sign, the house, Venus's strength and the rest of the chart.

↳ Is it bad for relationships?

No fixed rule says so. The pair is read for quiet depth and sometimes distance, and the 7th house, its lord and Jupiter matter more for the full picture.

↳ Is it good for spirituality or art?

Many teachers read it as supportive of devotional art, music and an inward search, especially in the 5th, 9th and 12th houses. It is a tendency and not a promise.

↳ How is it different from Venus and Rahu?

Rahu amplifies Venus's wanting and image, and Ketu quietens it and turns it inward. They sit on the same axis, at opposite ends.

↳ Is Venus combust with Ketu?

Combustion is about distance from the Sun, not from Ketu. Venus is combust within about 10 degrees of the Sun on this site's orb, and nodes are never treated as combust.
